The Zonta Club of New Orleans is selling poinsettias to help fund a UNO student scholarship.

Zonta Club of New Orleans is selling poinsettias for $12 each to help fund a full tuition scholarship of $2,000 for a non-traditional female UNO student.

11/19/2009 Capital One Contributes $405,000 in Grants to Benefit New Orleans Schools

Capital One has announced on November 19 $405,000 in education-related grants to the New Beginnings Schools Foundation and the Capital One-University of New Orleans Charter School Network. A strong supporter of UNO and its charter school network, Capital One has contributed a total of $1.7 million since 2006.

11/18/2009 UNO-led Planning Team Wins National Competition and Cash Award for Nonprofit Ninth Ward Partner

The planning team composed of students from UNO, LSU and DePaul won first place and $25,000 for its nonprofit partner in the JP Morgan Chase Communtiy Development competition.

The UNO/LSU/DePaul team won first prize and $25,000 for its nonprofit partner in the JP Morgan Chase Community Development Competition for the entry "5523 St. Claude Avenue: Bringing Fresh Food to the Lower Ninth Ward," a proposal for a grocery store in the Lower Ninth Ward.

11/17/2009 Privateers to Paint Lafitte Prints on November 20

The Lafitte footprints on campus walkways will be repainted by spirited volunteers on Friday, November 20.

Lafitte needs a make-over and all are welcome to show their Privateer Pride by joining Student Affairs in repainting the Lafitte footprints around campus on Friday, November 20. Participants will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the Milneburg Hall, Room 159 and painting will continue throughout the afternoon.

UNO History students and faculty have researched and organized historical venue panels and exhibits for the annual New Orleans Po-Boy Preservation Festival to be held on Sunday, November 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oak Street between Carrollton Avenue and Eagle Street. The Po-Boy Festival history events will be featured at 8123 Oak Street.

11/5/2009 UNO TRAC to Host One of Just Four Town Hall Sessions on November 20

The University of New Orleans Training Resource and Assistive-technology Center (UNO TRAC) is among just four sites nationally selected to host a full-day Town Hall Listening Session by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. The town hall session will be held on Friday, November 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UNO TRAC building on the Lakefront Campus.

11/3/2009 UNO Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity Wins Its First Competition

UNO Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity Mock Trial Team members, from left, Artis Ulmer III, Keelin Billue, Michael Darmas and Khalid Samarrae.

In its first competition, the University of New Orleans Phi Alpha Law Delta Fraternity Mock Trial Team defeated Citadel Military College and was the only team among 40 to receive the Ethics and Professionalism Award at the Hurricane Invitational held over the Halloween weekend in Miami, Florida.

The University of New Orleans, Department of Film, Theatre and Communication Arts Lakefront Youth Theatre Experience (UNO LYTE) will present 'Twas the Night Before Christmas on December 18-20 featuring a cast of school children to be selected by audition. Audition workshops and auditions will be held November 27 and 28.

The University of New Orleans College of Education and Human Development will demonstrate state-of-the-art virtual classroom technology on October 29 at 11 a.m. at the Homer L. Hitt Alumni Center. Visiting ambassadors from several participating Caribbean nations will experience this interactive technology as they watch, and then interact with preschoolers at Medard Nelson-UNO Charter School on St. Bernard Avenue.
