July 05, 2011

Recent University of New Orleans graduate Reginald Varnado is the winner of Randy Jackson’s first “Next YouTube Star” contest. Varnado, a former jazz studies student who goes by the name Reggie V, is a New Orleans native and an alumnus of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.

On his website, music producer and television personality Randy Jackson asked for YouTube submissions of artists who write original music. Jackson and his team chose a group of top five artists. After a period of online voting, Jackson revealed that Reggie V was the winner.

Varnado’s album, “Shades On A Rainy Day,” is available on iTunes. Varnado says his brand of R&B/ pop includes elements of jazz and funk. Some of his musical influences are Mel Torme, Nat King Cole, Stevie Wonder, Michael Buble, Bobby McFerrin and Ella Fitzgerald.  To read an interview with Reggie V on Randy Jackson’s website visit: http://www.randyjacksonnext.com/post/meet-your-next-youtube-star.
