Recent UNO Grad Is Finalist In Randy Jackson's YouTube Star Contest

June 15, 2011

Recent University of New Orleans graduate Reginald Varnado has been selected as one of the top five in Randy Jackson’s “Pick Your Favorite YouTube Music Star” contest. Varnado, a former jazz studies student who goes by the name Reggie V, is a New Orleans native and an alumnus of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.

His album, “Shades On A Rainy Day,” is available on iTunes. Varnado says his brand of R&B/ pop includes elements of jazz and funk. Some of his musical influences are Mel Torme, Nat King Cole, Stevie Wonder, Michael Buble, Bobby McFerrin and Ella Fitzgerald.

On his website, music producer and television personality Randy Jackson asked for YouTube submissions of artists who write original music. Thereafter Jackson and his team chose a group of top five artists. He is currently seeking comments on which of the five should be named the next big YouTube music star. The winner will be featured on Jackson’s website. The final day to vote is Thursday, June 16.
