New Student Enrollment Up 70% Over Last Summer

June 08, 2011

The number of new students at the University of New Orleans for the summer 2011 semester is up 70% compared to last summer’s enrollment. New students are a combination of first-time, full-time freshmen and undergraduate transfer students.

There are 567 new students enrolled in the summer 2011 semester at UNO, up from 333 in the summer 2010 semester. That includes 539 undergraduate transfer students, up from 318 last summer, and 28 first-time freshmen, up from 15 last summer. The first-time freshmen numbers are typically low, as a majority of first-time freshmen enroll in the fall semester.

"This large level of growth in summer enrollment from last year to this year is a good indicator that people are strongly interested in the excellent educational opportunities at UNO,” said Andy Benoit, director of the UNO Office of Admissions. “This shows that enhanced marketing and direct recruitment efforts are helping to increase the likelihood of enrollment.”
