The University of New Orleans is serving as the host institution for the 2011 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Magnetics Society Summer School. The summer school, held May 22-28, is designed for graduate students studying magnetism and related areas. It consists of lectures by international experts and includes poster presentations by participating graduate students. The program covers fundamental and advanced topics in magnetism. Approximately 100 students, from as far away as Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, are attending the event. A number of Americans, including about 15 local students, are participating as well.
The last three IEEE Magnetics Society Summer School host institutions were the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs; Nanjing University in Nanjing, China; and Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research in Dresden, Germany.
The winning proposal for the 2011 edition of summer school was submitted by UNO’s Advanced Materials Research Institute and the Department of Physics.
