UNO To Hold Executive Program In Resilience and Risk Management
March 30, 2011
The University of New Orleans Center for Hazards Assessment, Response and Technology (UNO-CHART) will hold a one-day executive program in resilience and risk management exclusively for government and business leaders in southeast Louisiana. It will take place on Friday, April 8 from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Lindy C. Boggs International Conference Center at UNO.
The program is an invitation-only event that will train high-level decision-makers from parish and city governments as well as selected businesses and nonprofit organizations. The program will focus on how to effectively build disaster-resilient communities. Speakers include John Wilson, director of public safety in Lee County, Florida and Chad Berginnis, associate director of the Association of State Floodplain Managers.
“UNO-CHART is excited to be launching an executive program that offers the science and practice of resilience to local officials and business leaders,” said Earthea Nance, UNO assistant professor of planning and urban studies and UNO-CHART faculty associate. “The program is unique because it is designed for decision-makers and because it focuses on managing the multiple hazards and risks we face in coastal Louisiana.”
The program is funded by FEMA through the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness. For more information, contact Earthea Nance at (504) 280-5760 or visit

UNO-CHART undertakes social science research to understand how Louisiana communities and the coastal region respond to risks and what these communities can do to reduce future risks in order to become more resilient.
