March 21, 2011

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the University of New Orleans’ oldest and most rigorous interdisciplinary academic honor society, welcomed 49 new members into its ranks in a ceremony on the UNO campus. It took place Monday in the Homer L. Hitt Alumni and Visitors Center. Members were invited to join on the basis of superior scholarship and good character.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, which was started in 1897 by 10 seniors at the University of Maine, has chapters on 300 college campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. It annually confers membership on more than 30,000 people. Phi Kappa Phi remains a unifying force for academic excellence, inducting high-ranking undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, professional staff and alumni.  Its motto is “Let the love of learning rule humanity.”
