A high school student who participated in a UNO summer research program in materials science is one of the co-authors of a research paper published in the scientific journal Materials Science and Engineering B.
Colleen Wei, a former student at Benjamin Franklin High School, took part in the UNO Advanced Materials Research Institute (AMRI) Outreach Summer Research Program in 2009. Her mentor and sponsor for the program was Kevin Stokes, UNO professor in the Department of Physics and AMRI. Colleen’s participation in the summer program was made possible through a grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents.
The UNO AMRI Outreach Summer Research Program is an annual event in which students and teachers engage in research projects in the areas of synthesis and characterization, and application of nanoparticles. Participants also attend scientific and professional development seminars, a session on research ethics and field trips to relevant sites.
