University of New Orleans alumna Cirecie West-Olatunji, an associate professor at the University of Florida, has been elected incoming president of the American Counseling Association. West-Olatunji is a double-degree holder from UNO’s College of Education and Human Development with a master’s of education in counselor education and a doctorate in counselor education.
She is an associate professor in the University of Florida’s School of Human Development and Organizational Studies in Education. Her research is grounded in multicultural counseling theory that focuses on the relationship among traumatic stress, systemic oppression and educational hegemony in the development of culturally and socially marginalized students.
The American Counseling Association is the national professional association for counselors with more than 60,000 members across the United States and the world.
