For the second straight year, the University of New Orleans is among U.S. News & World Report’s 20 most popular universities, based on the highest percentage of accepted students who end up enrolling. UNO is also the only university in Louisiana to appear in the top 20.
The list is led by Harvard and includes Brigham Young, Stanford, Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania.
According to U.S. News & World Report, one of the best indicators of a school’s popularity among students is the school’s yield—the percentage of applicants accepted by a university who end up enrolling at that institution in the fall. The figures in the current survey are from the class that entered in the fall of 2010. Of the 1,933 students who were admitted to UNO, 1,066 chose to enroll for a yield of 55.1%.
“We are gratified to be included on this list for the second year in a row,” said UNO President Peter J. Fos. “I think it demonstrates that students understand the great value that UNO offers—an excellent education at an affordable price. Our yield for last fall’s entering class was even better, so we look forward to appearing even higher on the list next year.”
The list highlights national universities, which are research-oriented institutions that offer degrees of all levels. To see the full list, visit: http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/2012/01/24/the-most-popular-national-universities.
