University of New Orleans political scientist Ed Chervenak has been appointed the director of the UNO Survey Research Center, also known as the UNO Poll. Chervenak is an assistant professor of political science and a highly-regarded analyst who frequently provides his expertise to local and national media organizations.
“We are very pleased to be able to announce that Dr. Ed Chervenak has accepted the position as director of the UNO Survey Research Center,” said Susan Krantz, dean of the UNO College of Liberal Arts. “Long a leader in monitoring and analyzing the quality of life for New Orleans, the UNO Poll has earned the respect of government, community and media leaders in the area. Following Hurricane Katrina, the poll underwent a series of modifications in order to meet the special needs of the community at that time. Now, with a new director and updated methodologies, the poll can once again return to its fundamental mission to serve the New Orleans community with data on its citizens’ quality of life.”
“As director of the Survey Research Center at the University of New Orleans, I look forward to serving the research, teaching and service needs of the University and of the larger community,” Chervenak said. “The center collects information about public opinion, beliefs, and values on a wide range of social, economic and political issues affecting the greater New Orleans area. Our goal is to continue to provide an ongoing picture of how voters view local government services and the general quality of life.”
The UNO Survey Research Center began its Quality of Life series in 1986. These surveys highlight the problems that are of greatest concern to the voters, as well as areas of satisfaction in their parish. The series can be used to assess the effects of events, programs and policies. The series can also inform the public and officials about specific areas of perceived deterioration or improvement.
