UNO Professor Pens Editorial In Australia's Top-Selling National Newspaper

January 21, 2011

University of New Orleans professor John Renne published a guest editorial on the topic of disaster recovery in The Australian, the top-selling national newspaper in Australia.

Renne, a professor of planning and urban studies and the associate director of the UNO Transportation Institute, provided insight into the lessons from post-Katrina New Orleans that can be applied to Australia’s recent devastating floods. “Plenty of Pain in Recovery” appeared in the opinion section of the Jan. 21 edition of The Australian. In the editorial, Renne addresses some of the challenges that members of the planning profession will face as the hardest-hit areas of the country attempt to recover from the disaster.

Renne is well-acquainted with Australia. He has served as a research associate and a visiting scholar at Murdoch University in Perth. He is also affiliated with the Planning and Transport Research Centre and the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute in Western Australia.
