Engineering Recognition Awards To Be Held For 17th Year

The University of New Orleans College of Engineering will hold its 17th annual Recognition Awards ceremony tonight, November 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Homer L. Hitt Alumni and Visitors Center. Awards will be presented to individuals associated with the College of Engineering whose service to the College is considered outstanding, as well as to an engineering project that reflects the best the local engineering community has to offer.  
 
Roy Carubba and Debbie Settoon will receive the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award, presented to a graduate of a UNO engineering program for contributions to engineering or leadership in engineering management. Riley Parker will receive the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Service Award, presented to a graduate of a UNO engineering program. Kazim Akyuzlu, UNO professor of mechanical engineering, and Tonja Koob, president of Gaea Consultants, will be presented with the Distinguished Service to the College of Engineering Award, given to a person who is not necessarily a graduate of UNO but recognized in such areas as major fund raising or personal giving, outstanding service on engineering advisory groups, industry advocacy for the College of Engineering or related efforts to bring support or recognition to the College of Engineering. The John N. Crisp Award for Engineering Excellence will go to the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Surge Barrier.
