Joseph F. StoltzJoseph F. Stoltz, who received a master's in history from the University of New Orleans in May, has received the 2009 Hugh F. Rankin Prize from the Louisiana Historical Associaton for his paper, "An Ardent Military Spirit: The Militia of Louisiana Provisional Government, 1802-1805," and has been awarded a full assistantship to attend  Texas Christian University where he plans to pursue a doctoral degree.

The UNO Electric Boat Team aboard the 'Milneburg Joys' placed first in the 300-meter sprint at the Solar Splash competition and set a world record.The University of New Orleans, School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Electric Boat Team placed first, setting a world record, in the 300-meter sprint at the Solar Splash competition held May 27-31 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The team also placed first in the solar endurance event.

The University of New Orleans, Lester E. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration has received a gift of $110,000 from Gloria Kabacoff for the production laboratory, the fourth phase of the HRT Lab renovation. Mrs. Kabacoff is the widow of the school's namesake who was a pioneer in the region's hospitality industry.
