UNO Engineering Professor Vorus Wins National Recognition

(October 22, 2009, New Orleans, La.) - Professor William S. Vorus, the Jerome Goldman Chair in Naval Architecture and chairman of the University of New Orleans School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, has been selected by the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers to receive the prestigious William Webb Medal.

The William Webb Award which recognizes outstanding career academic contributions, was presented to Vorus today (October 22) at the society's annual meeting in Providence, Rhode Island.

Vorus, who began his career at Newport News Shipbuilding, was a professor of Naval Architecture at the University of Michigan for 23 years before joining the UNO College of Engineering in 1996. He has been frequently recognized for his career academic and engineering contributions in the marine field.
