Feminist Literacy Practices Topic of October 15 Coffee Talk
10/8/2009
(October 8, 2009, New Orleans, La.) - Crafting Culture, Crafting Selves, Do-It-Yourself (DIY) as a Third-Wave Feminist Literacy Practice will be the topic presented by Doreen Piano, University of New Orleans assistant professor of English, on Thursday, October 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the Douglas "Dougie" Hitt Room (407) of the Earl K. Long Library as the UNO Coffee Talk Lecture Series continues.
The talk will explore the relationship between Third-Wave feminism, literacy practices and DIY subcultures. It will situate these practices within a continuum of feminist textual and literacy practices that use technology and print culture to create informal, non-institutional feminist spaces and cultures for educating and communicating feminism at a grassroots level.
The program, which is free and open to the public, is presented by the UNO Women's Center and the Women's and Gender Studies Program.
