Pianist Di Wu to Kick Off UNO 2009-10 Musical Excursions Series on October 6

(September 25, 2009, New Orleans, La.) - Pianist Di Wu will perform on Tuesday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of New Orleans Performing Arts Center Recital Hall to open the UNO 2009-10 Musical Excursions Concert Series.
Wu, who was selected among 12 Young Artists: More Thrills of Discovery for Musical America's 2008 edition, was a finalist for the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition where The Wall Street Journal described her performances as "deeply poetic" and combining "assured, contained strength with high drama."
A native of Xiamen, China, she won her first competition as a 6-year-old and debuted with the Beijing Philharmonic at age 14. She has since performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, the National Symphony Orchestra and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. She made her Alice Tully Hall debut in May 2009 as the winner of the Julliard William Petschek Piano Debut Recital Award.
Wu, who placed first in the 2005 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, the Great Neck Young Musician Competition, the Young Musicians Competition and the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, has also performed as a recitalist in several U.S. states as well as in Barbados, Canada and Hong Kong.
The 2009-10 UNO Musical Excursions Guest Artist series, presented by the UNO Department of Music and the Graduate Program in Arts Administration, will continue on November 12 with the Paris Piano Trio, on February 2 with the Quartet Vivace Brasil, and on April 6 with pianist Yeol Eum Son.
Musical Excursions Guest Artist concerts are performed
at 7:30 p.m. in the UNO Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $6 for seniors and UNO faculty and staff, and $3 for UNO students.
In addition to the evening performances, the UNO Musical Excursions concert series will present a series of free performances, including cellist Karen Ray on Friday, October 2, and soprano Valerie Anne Jones-Francis on Sunday, January 31.
