Peter Moser First Ambassador to Hold UNO Marshall Chair
8/18/2009 (August 18, 2009, New Orleans, La..) - Dr. Peter Moser has begun his appointment as Ambassador-in-Residence and the 10th Marshall Plan Chair at the University of New Orleans.
Moser, who is teaching courses in "Practice in Diplomacy" and "European Diplomatic History, 1815-1914" during the fall semester, is UNO's first diplomat-in-residence. His classes have already proven popular among UNO students majoring in history, political science and international relations, said Gertraud Griessner, coordinator of UNO Center Austria.
Moser, who holds a doctorate in law and served in the Austrian Foreign Service for more than 30 years before retiring, has been Austrian Ambassador to the United States, Japan and Korea. He will work on his memoirs during his year at UNO.
The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation endowed the Marshall Plan Chair at UNO a decade ago in recognition of the University's 35-year partnership with the University of Innsbruck and other Austrian universities. Thousands of American students have studied in Innsbruck and hundreds of Innsbruck students have studied at UNO through the years, while dozens of faculty exchanges have benefited both institutions.
The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundaiton supports higher education exchanges and partnerships between the United States and Austria, and recognizes the historic achievements of the American Marshall Plan in bringing economic recovery and prosperity to Austria and supporting democratic governance of Austria after World War II. With educational programs such as the Marshall Plan Chair initiative at UNO, the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation keeps alive the memory and spirit of the Marshall Plan.
