Eisenhower Center to Present Free Seminar at WWII Museum on July 11

(July 2, 2009, New Orleans, La.) - The University of New Orleans, Eisenhower Center for American Studies will hold a free program titled "Military History of New Orleans/South Louisiana: Public History at Work" on Saturday, July 11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the National World War II Museum.

Michael Edwards, UNO Eisenhower Center project coordinator, will serve as the moderator for two panel discussions.

The first of the panels on the "Colonial and Civil War Period" will feature UNO historians Joe Stoltz and Darryl Barthe. Stoltz will speak on "The Louisiana Militia: Examining Loyalty in the Early National Period" while Barthe will address "The Curious Circumstances of the Louisiana Native Guard."

The second panel will focus on "World War II" and will feature Thomas Nguyen Naquin, a historian with the National World War II Museum, on "U-boats in the Gulf" and Toni Kiser, assistant curator of the museum, on "Artifacts of World War II."

The free event is presented by the UNO Eisenhower Center for American Studies, the National World War II Museum Research Department and the UNO Department of History.
