UNO Offers Summer Theater Mini-Camps for Ages 5 to 7

(May 29, 2009, New Orleans, La.) - The University of New Orleans Lakefront Youth Theatre Experiment (LYTE) will offer three weeklong half-day theater camps this summer for children ages 5 to 7. Munchkins & Monkey Mini Summer Theatre Camp will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. The Mini Camp will be held concurrently with the final weeks of The Wizard of Oz summer camps.
The young campers will be introduced to the basics of movement and theater techniques through various theater games and activities. Mini camp will culminate in live performances of the Frank L. Baum classic The Wizard of Oz, adapted for young performers by Kathryn Schultz Miller. The performances will be held Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on the weekend following each mini camp session.
The mini camp dates are:
- Mini 1: June 15-June 21
- Mini 2: July 6-July 12
- Mini 3: July 27-August 2
The mini camps will be held in the UNO Performing Arts Center Robert E. Nims Theatre. Tuition is $75 per session and includes a T-shirt for each camper.
